News Desk: Nine more benches have been constituted in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court to hear urgent cases due to the suspension of normal judicial work due to the spread of the global epidemic coronavirus. Also two benches have been restructured. As a result, the number of benches in the High Court has increased to 30. These benches of the High Court will sit from next Sunday (June 13).

An order signed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Thursday (June 10th) increased the number of benches in the High Court Division. These benches are constituted by the Chief Justice with administrative powers. The virtual court was launched on May 25 last year. Until then, the courts were on public holiday. However, 35/36 High Court benches sit at the beginning of the virtual court proceedings. And after the coronavirus infection is reduced, 52/53 High Court benches sit regularly every day. At that time, more than half of the High Court benches conducted virtual justice. And lower courts were opened in phases all over the country.

Regular court proceedings continued in the physical presence of the lower court. But in the wake of the rise in coronavirus infections in the second phase, normal judicial proceedings in courts across the country have been shut down since April 5 due to restrictions announced by the government. At that time only four benches were constituted in the High Court Division for hearing urgent matters. Since then, lawyers have repeatedly demanded an increase in the number of benches. Despite the demands of the lawyers, the Chief Justice did not increase the number of benches at once but gradually increased the number of benches. Due to the latest increase of 9 benches, now the number of benches stands at 30.
