News Desk: Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has said that 1.1 million tonnes of boiled and roasted rice and 6.5 million tonnes of paddy will be procured from the domestic market by the government in the current boro season. Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder made the remarks at a virtual press conference on Monday (April 26) on the occasion of the upcoming borough procurement program.

He said 10 lakh tonnes of boiled rice at Tk 40 per kg, 1.5 lakh tonnes of Atap rice at Tk 39 per kg and paddy at Tk 28 per kg would be procured from farmers. Sadhan Chandra Majumder also said that the procurement of paddy will start from April 26 and from May 8.

"A virtual meeting of the Food Planning and Consumption Committee was held on April 22," he said. It was not possible to hold a press conference on that day due to incomplete decisions and policy issues. It has been decided to give a fair price to the farmers in Boro. The Prime Minister has also approved that decision. The food minister said, "Last year, paddy was bought at Tk 28 per kg, boiled rice at Tk 36 per kg and atap rice at Tk 38 per kg during the boro season." As such, paddy is being bought at a higher price of Tk 1 and rice at Tk 3 per kg. '

The food minister said, "Hopefully, we will be able to buy paddy properly. We have given that instruction at the field level." At the field level, instructions have also been given that no farmer should come back with paddy. There should be no trouble. There is no compromise on the quality of rice. It has been instructed to buy rice and paddy with 40 percent humidity while maintaining accuracy.

This time the price of paddy has been increased by one taka to 3 taka more than last year, is it a kind look at the farmer? Asked what he thought, the minister said, "One thing to keep in mind is that 60 kg of paddy weighs 39 kg of rice, so if the price of paddy is Tk 28 per kg, the price of rice per kg should be Rs 42 a few paise." Excluding the garbage, we have brought the price to 40 Taka.

If the price is increased, the price of rice will increase further. It will cause more instability. ' "If the prices in the market are high, the procurement target will not be met. This time, we are not worried about that," he said. Because the harvest is still good. If there is no natural calamity, if paddy can be harvested, it should not be a problem this time.

' Asked about the production cost of Boro paddy and rice per kg this time, he said, "It has come from different places. Somehow from the Ministry of Agriculture, somehow from the Department of Agricultural Marketing. However, the government's incentives for irrigation and fertilizer, I think they have benefited from the cost of production.

Asked if it would be possible to achieve this target of borough collection and control the price of rice, the minister said, "If there is a discrepancy in the data, then there is a problem." When it is seen that the target of rice production is 3 crore 8 lakh 24 thousand tons. According to the BBS report, the production is 36 million tons.

21 lakh tonnes less has been produced due to Ampan and four floods, so it is possible to increase the price. We have had to take various steps to deal with it. We believe we have been able to stem the tide of market volatility.

I will not let the price go up anymore. ' "Everyone talks about the syndicate but no one can hand over the syndicate," he said. We also tried, but did not find any syndicate. No syndicate works if there is more supply. There is no chance for anyone to cross by syndicating. I would request the journalist friends to find any such stock ... we are also looking for it.

' Asked if there was any progress in siloing 200 pedies after taking charge two years ago, the food minister said, "It has been decided to silo 200 pedies with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes." We have already sent in the planning.

It was later approved in the GoB Fund as a pilot scheme. The capacity has been increased from 5,000 to 10,000 tonnes. I have also prepared DPP and given it in planning.

It has been decided to make 160 more silos in foreign funds. It is in process. Kovid has pushed us back. ' Agriculture Secretary Moshammat Nazmanara Khanum made the request at a press conference so that the farmer would not sell the slip to anyone else if his name appeared in the lottery.
