Sherpur Correspondent: Farmers in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur are smiling at the bumper crop of boro paddy. The paddy has already started to be harvested. At present, farmers and peasants are busy cutting and threshing boro paddy in all parts of the upazila. Boro paddy cutting and threshing work is going on in the field now. The farmers smiled with joy as the yield was good.
It is learned that during the current boro season, the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department has set a target of cultivating boro on 13,172 hectares of land in 6 unions of Jhenaigati upazila. However, boroughs have been planted on more land than the target. The yield has also been quite good. This time 50 to 60 manas of paddy has been produced in each acre of land. Humayun Kabir, an agronomist of the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department, expressed hope that the farmers would be able to harvest the expected yield in the boro season if the weather is favorable and natural disasters are overcome.
