Sherpur Correspondent: On the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the cultivation of purple paddy in green paddy in the form of a national flag has spread fascination in Sherpur. The agitation was sparked when a teacher by the name of Noor Alam Siddiqui planted purple paddy in the middle of green paddy in a piece of cultivable land in Ardashik Chetna and Sakherbash in Dhanshail area bordering the Upazila. Curious people from different areas are gathering every day to see that exceptional paddy field of Noor Alam, the headmaster of the local Dhanshail Girls High School.

Some people are trying to find out, is it rice? What is the condition of the rice? Many are taking selfies. It is known that the first purple paddy was planted in Gaibandha. The rice is called 'Purple Leaf Rice' which is full of beauty and nutrition. The leaves and stems of that paddy tree are purple in color. Its rice color is also purple. So till now, the farmers have known that paddy is purple paddy or colored paddy. Teacher Noor Alam Siddiqui saw the purple 'Purple Leaf Rice' on YouTube and it also aroused his interest in farming.

As a result, after many attempts to collect the seeds, he collected the seeds from a local tribal farmer through Abdul Hannan, the headmaster of the nearby Shalchura High School. Now he has experimentally planted paddy in 2 acres of land. It can be seen on the ground that two varieties of paddy named 'Bangla Moti' and 'Kataribug' have been planted in about one acre of land. Green paddy fields around and in the middle Planting of circle-shaped purple paddy.

The purple rice plant spreads its fascination all around, creating a rare sight resembling the national flag. People are crowding every day to see the new paddy. In this regard, teacher Noor Alam Siddiqui said, ‘Purple Leaf Rice’ is a bowl of exceptional rice. Seeing it on YouTube, he became an entrepreneur in farming. Going to cultivate by collecting seeds with great difficulty, I try to make the shape of the national flag by planting green paddy in a round shape in the middle of the green paddy field. And that has created that captivating scene. Many farmers have also asked him for seeds to cultivate that paddy. According to him, the sadha was awakened from the national consciousness.

There are plans to increase planting in the future after seeing what the yield of paddy will be. He further said that the flag was planted on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to awaken the national consciousness of the great liberation war among the locals, especially the Komalmati students. And seeing the scene, the way people are responding or giving congratulations, I feel good about myself. Tareq Hossain, a local farmer from Dandiyarpara, said, "At first I thought the paddy field was ruined. After asking later, I found out that it is purple rice.

Sir (Noor Alam) has planted it in such a way that it looks like the national flag of Bangladesh. I will also cultivate in the future. In this regard, Jhenaigati Upazila Agriculture Officer Humayun Kabir said, "I have never seen this paddy cultivation in this Upazila before." This time, though in a limited range, the purple-red has spread fascination in the paddy cultivation area. If the yield is good, it is advisable to keep the produce in the form of seeds. Due to the high nutritional value of the paddy, there is a possibility of increasing the cultivation in the future. According to him, that rice is also delicious to eat. Besides, that rice is quite beneficial for diabetics.
