News Desk: The price of onion went up by Tk 10 per kg due to extra purchases by the residents of the capital in fear of lockdown. However, due to the restrictions, the price of the onion has come down by Rs 10 per kg in two phases and has returned to the previous price. Both retailers and wholesalers have claimed that such fluctuations in onion prices are causing losses.

They say that after the price hike, the onion market will fall in such a hurry that no one could have imagined. Their idea was that the price of onion could go up a little more. For this reason, most traders buy onions in excess at the beginning of the rise in prices. Traders also say that the market is now full of good quality onions.

These onions can be stored for a long time. Buyers are not buying this good quality onion even after the price has come down. But a few days ago, when the price went up, a class of buyers stumbled to buy onions. A search of various markets in the capital on Sunday (April 18) revealed that good quality domestic onions were being sold at Tk 35 per kg at the retail level.

The wholesale price of onion is 29-30 Taka per kg. Onions were being sold at this price on April 5 before the government imposed a one-week lockdown or restriction in the first phase as part of the coronavirus epidemic. However, after the announcement of a week-long lockdown, when the residents of the capital started buying extra, the price of onion went up to Tk 45 per kg.

After that, the price went down a bit, but in the second phase, when the government imposed strict restrictions for a week, the price of onion went up to Tk 40-45 per kg. In this situation, the price of onion has started declining again from Saturday. Malibagh Hajipara businessman said. Jahangir said, "I saw the trend of increasing the price of onion before Ramadan and bought 20 ounces of onion at Tk 36 per kg." Not even half of that onion was sold.

Now I am selling onions bought at 36 rupees per kg for 35 Taka. I caught one onion more than once this year. “Retailers like us are in a lot of danger,” he said. Sales were good before the lockdown. But sales have dropped in the lockdown. But now fasting is going on.

The demand for onions during Ramadan is much higher than at other times. In this Corona epidemic, everything has turned upside down. Rampura businessman said. Alamin said a few days ago, people were stumbling to buy 40 kg of onion. The price went up to 45 Taka. Now the price of onion is 35 Taka per kg. But there is no such buyer before. In fact, understanding human behavior is a big responsibility. When prices rise, they stumble to buy, and when prices fall, there is no news.

He said that this time the price of onion is going up and down more. Most of the retailers like us are counting the losses. Some are trying to raise capital by selling onions at the purchase price. But in the current state of sales, it seems that the price of onion may go down further. Lokman Hossain, an onion wholesaler in Karwan Bazar, said, "I don't hear the price of onion anymore.

I am very worried about onions. Onions bought at Tk 30 per kg now have to be sold at Tk 29-30. I had no idea that the price of onion would fall in such a hurry. ' He said, ‘Everyone thinks that wholesalers make a lot of profit from the onion business. But the reality is different. Many traders in Karwan Bazar have returned to the village after losing onions last year.

This time too, it seems that many people will be caught in the onion business. Haji Mohammad Majed, general secretary of Shyambazar Onion Traders Association, said, "What has happened is that the price of onion has come down.

The traders have counted the losses, the government has not done anything. People can buy onions at low prices. When businessmen like us die, who cares. ' "I was hospitalized for seven days with coronary heart disease," he said. No one has any news. Everyone thinks that the onion traders of Shyambazar make a lot of profit. But onions bought at Tk 32 per kg now that we are selling at Tk 29-30 per kg, no one sees it. '
