Kurigram Correspondent: Workers are in trouble due to lockdown in Kurigram. As a result of the lockdown for the third day in a row, the sky is falling on the heads of those involved in small business. Lockdown seems to be poison on the knees of these families who have to make ends meet by borrowing money in various ways as the sword has come down in their lives and livelihoods.

Although many businesses open with risk, sales have stopped due to a lack of buyers. Saju, Ramzan, Rafiqul, and Kalam, small traders of Kurigram Municipality, said, "We are running the business on loan." You have to pay installments every day. Business is closed now.

I have to bring money from home and pay the installment. Some are paying installments with money on interest. Make our rules. We want to conduct business in compliance with hygiene rules. Otherwise we will sit on the road. Chamsul, a trader from Khalilganj Bazar, said, "I am treating my sick wife and son by doing small business." The business has collapsed as a result of the lockdown. How to meet the medical expenses now!

Especially those who are working in the houses under construction in the city are in a miserable condition as they cannot go to the market when they return home in the afternoon. Chhakina and Jasmat, who were working in a flat next to Khalilganj Bazar, said that Delhi Sug shop was closed after entering Teka Nia Bazar yesterday. I couldn't even buy rice. Curry was not bought. This has been the situation of the workers.

Khandaker Khairul Alam, Kurigram district president of Citizens for Good Governance (Sujan), said people were not accepting the issue of hurting their livelihood more than adhering to hygiene rules. As a result, the government's initiative is not succeeding.

The government has to implement the public plans by ensuring food security for unemployed families and giving them the opportunity to run their business in compliance with the health norms. Meanwhile, despite various initiatives taken by the Kurigram district administration to implement the government's plan to stop the upward Kovid-19, many do not agree.

Despite the district administration's campaign and miking, there has been a tendency to disobey the ban. Although the mobile team monitors and fines in two shifts a day, they have to be strict in not following the hygiene rules and instructions. Additional District Magistrate Sujauddaula said the operation was carried out till 2 pm on Wednesday and a fine of Tk 18,150 was imposed in 33 cases.

Executive Magistrate Tanjila Tasnim imposed a fine of Tk 1,650 in 19 cases, Executive Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan Tk 8,900 in eight cases, and Iceland Mostafizur Rahman Tk 7,500 in eight cases under Section 180/289 of the Penal Code. The campaign will continue under the direction of the deputy commissioner to follow the health rules and the instructions of the government.
