News Desk: The complexity of the promotion of assistant teachers in government secondary schools has been cut. With the end of the complexity of the case, there is no longer any obstacle to the promotion of teachers recruited in the field of agriculture.

According to sources, agricultural teachers joined the 14th grade of the national pay scale in 1995, but since 2004 their position has been upgraded to 10th grade like other assistant teachers. Their seniority has been maintained by the Ministry of Public Administration since 2004. But they have been claiming seniority since 1995. The Administrative Tribunal has upheld the opinion given by the Ministry of Public Administration in this case.

The promotion of government school teachers has been stuck for a long time. The Department of Secondary and Higher Education announced in 2016 that 50 per cent assistant teachers of government secondary schools would be promoted as per the new recruitment rules. Until October last year, Mausi had streamlined the process of promoting government school teachers. On October 26, 2019, the draft gradation list for the promotion of assistant teachers of government secondary schools was published. The list contained the names of five thousand 754 teachers. Teachers were also asked to send the application by November 14 if there is any inconsistency or objection in the list. Then there was the complication with the promotion of government secondary school assistant teachers to senior teachers. Agriculture teachers filed a case questioning the promotion list.

The verdict in the case was scheduled for Wednesday (October 14). The court dismissed the case. The court upheld the opinion of the Ministry of Public Administration in the verdict. In other words, the seniority of agricultural teachers has been maintained since 2004.

In this regard, the organizing secretary of the Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers Association. Abdus Salam said, ‘This verdict has put an end to a major complication in government secondary schools. Hopefully, all parties will respect the court's verdict. I request the Ministry of Education and the Department of Secondary and Higher Education to start the promotion of teachers soon.
