Nabiganj administration's surprise operation: 4 people jailed and fined for cutting down hills

Habiganj Correspondent: On the basis of the news that the hill is being cut in Bargaon village of Paniumda union of Dinarpur Pargana, a hilly island of Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj, 4 people involved in the night raid of Nabiganj upazila administration have been arrested, 3 tractors and an excavator machine have been seized. The detainees were later jailed and fined for various terms by a mobile court. Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Mohiuddin led the operation which lasted till dawn on Friday.

It is known that Dinarpur Pargana of Nabiganj Upazila has gained fame as the only hill island but it is not being protected from the coral grass of the hill people. A group of dishonest people have cut down the hill by showing their thumbs up to the High Court's order to save the hill. Recently, a man named Lutfur Rahman of Bargaon village in Paniumada union of Dinarpur upazila was illegally cutting down a hill from a local hill at night. A nearby sawmill site was being filled with hilly soil cut through the hills. A team of police led by Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Mohiuddin and SI Mazharul Islam of Goplar Bazar Investigation Center conducted a raid in Bargaon village of Paniumada area around 1am on Thursday. During the operation, 4 people including 3 tractor drivers were arrested.

Three tractors and a hill cutting machine excavator used for cutting the hill were seized. The operation lasted till dawn on Friday. The arrested are tractor drivers Sumon Ahmed, Naeem Mia, Rubel Mia and Abdur Rahman. Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Sheikh Mohiuddin, who led the operation on the same night, arrested the tractor driver Sumon, Rubel Naeem for three months imprisonment and Abdur Rahman for six months imprisonment without parole and another Tk 50,000 (under Tk 50,000) as per the Balu Mahal and Soil Management Act 2010. Jail) fines are paid.

Chairman of the local union council Ijazur Rahman and Juba League leader Anu Ahmed were present during the campaign. Ijazur Rahman, chairman of Paniumada Union Parishad, said a group of unscrupulous gangs were plowing the hills at night. Upon receiving the news, the administration conducted a raid and arrested four people and seized three tractors and an excavator. Confirming the veracity of the operation, Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Mohiuddin told bdnews24.com that the administration would continue its crackdown on mountaineers, adding that the administration would be in a tough position to protect government property no matter who is influential.
