News Desk: The week-long lockdown in the country is ending today (Sunday) at 12 noon. However, it will continue on Monday and Tuesday, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. He said this at a press conference at the residence of the parliament building in the capital on Sunday morning. Obaidul Quader said the first phase of lockdown is coming to an end today. The relatively severe and all-encompassing lockdown will start from April 14.

When asked what will happen on April 12 and 13, Obaidul Quader clarified that the ongoing lockdown of the first phase will continue for two days. On April 4, the government imposed a one-week strict ban on coronavirus infections across the country.

The lockdown started at 8 am last Monday. However, from the beginning, traders across the country, including the capital Dhaka, protested demanding the withdrawal of the lockdown. As a result, despite the decision to close public transport and shopping malls in the lockdown, the government gave conditional approval to public transport on Wednesday.

Shopping malls and shops are also open from Friday. On Friday, five days after the lockdown, Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced a comprehensive lockdown for a week from April 14.
